Random characters removed again!Yet again I've had characters removed from a post. This time, "food+art" became "food art" and I don't understand why. It is a royal pain having to delete status all over the place and then manually repost. Please stop doing this!

URL shortening doesn't workI thought this service was supposed to always shorten URLs. Yet one of my posts yesterday sent the entire URL to every service. I'm thankful the post was exactly 140 characters but was expecting URL trimming as always. What gives?

Unicode supportI love your product, but how about offering unicode support? I just had Joyeux Noël turned into Joyeux Nol which then posted and reposted to dozens of places. I think I've finally deleted the last traces of it, but what a pain spreading a simple holiday message! Ping.fm supports unicode fine, so the issue has to be with the plugin. Hope you get it resolved quickly; and you may wish to post a disclaimer in the box so that people will know not to use it for that purpose.

Create a notification radius between 200 and 2kI would like to see a nearby notification radius (and option to view People Near Me) that's somewhere between 200 and 2000. As it currently stands, 200 is just too limited; if someone checks in literally across the street from me, BK considers that > 200 since I'm in a building that occupies an entire block (with one street address around the corner). I've been in other densely-populated areas with similar problems, where I've been shocked that no notifications are provided when someone checks in next door. So I finally switched to 2000, but it's just too broad. I want to know if someone is checking in nearby, not across town or in a different 'hood. Can there be some type of in-between offering?
Thanks as always for a fantastic service!

Although I can see how this new system works for many, it still doesn't work for me or anyone dealing with a mixed-use development with one street address. In my case I live in a large building with retail and restaurants on the ground level. I'd like to be able to check in publicly to a restaurant or gallery but not my actual residence. If we had actual private placemarks, this would work fine. Unfortunately, the setting of one (my residence) overrides another (a store) because we share the same address. I really hope this will be resolved in the future. This would seem a potential hassle for many folks. Thanks for taking the concept this far.
I would still really, really love to be able to toggle the Twitter feed easily *without* having to go into private mode. I don't actually care whether anyone knows where I live; I just don't want it pushed to Twitter every time I return home and dutifully check in. I also may go somewhere like a grocery store where I'd like to check in publicly but don't think the Twitterverse would care. In a perfect BK world, activity at certain placemarks could also be designated as being fed (or not) to Twitter (and perhaps future services), independent of privacy settings.

No trips existThe system shows me as having NO trips, yet when I go to the FB app it says I have multiple trips planned. There is no way for me to view or edit my trips on your site; it tells me at the top that I am out of town; and if I view the map it does show three cities, but it still says I have no trips. This is a great concept, but this type of experience will have few people returning or actually using the site.

evolver replied on June 14, 2008 05:03 to the idea "Attach Privacy Level to Location" in Brightkite:
I have a slightly different variation of this. While I don't mind anyone knowing my home address (since I live in a large building that shares the same street address with retail and restaurants), I'd prefer not to have it pushed to Twitter every time I religiously check back in for the night. It's more of a redundancy thing that anything else. I like to let people know when I'm out somewhere, but it's boring and almost depressing generated a tweet that I'm home. I'd feel the same way if a "Home" placemark showed up instead. The same would be true if I went to an office every day; I don't think it would be newsworthy that I'm at work. So while I like the option to have public/private placemarks, I'd also love to choose whether to feed Twitter (and other services that may be offered in the future) based on each placemark.

evolver replied on June 13, 2008 04:11 to the idea "Text Message, SMS, updates from Mobiles to Ping" in Ping.fm:
This is indeed a real bummer. I thought originally Ping would be able to pickup my tweets and distribute them to other sites, but it looks like it only works if you originate from Ping. This doesn't really accomplish my needs. SMS is much simpler (quick to compose, no need for a subject, etc) and more importantly most devices count the characters as you type so there's no risk of going over 140. If you introduce this option or offer a service that polls other sites (particularly Twitter) and spreads the status, I'd be all over it.
